A Legacy That Grows

Evolving

Legacies are not static. Over time, they live, adapt, and expand, and for over seven decades, Low Yat Group has operated on that very belief. Our tagline, ‘A Legacy That Grows’, is far more than a simple slogan. It is a living promise that every foundation laid since our early beginnings will continue to evolve, shaping the future of Malaysia and enriching the lives of our people across generations and changing times. From our humble beginnings to a multi-faceted conglomerate, our journey is a testament to vision, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to building for tomorrow.

Group Founders

Pioneer

The story of Low Yat Group began in 1947 when the late Tan Sri Low Yat established a construction business that would later grow into one of Malaysia’s leading privately owned business groups. A visionary entrepreneur and pioneer in Malaysia’s property and construction industry, he played a significant role in shaping the nation’s urban landscape. Under his leadership, the Group expanded beyond construction into property development, hospitality, manufacturing, banking, and strategic investments, laying the foundation for a diversified enterprise built on growth, innovation, and long-term value creation.

Among the Group’s early landmark projects were the Victoria Institution extension at Petaling Street, Government Bungalows at Federal Hill, Tong Shin Terrace, shop houses along Jalan Imbi and Jalan Tiong Nam, the Royal Selangor Club Swimming Pool Clubhouse, and the Government Administrative Complex in Petaling Jaya. These developments reflected his commitment to supporting the growth and modernisation of Malaysia during its formative years.

In 1971, the late Tan Sri Datuk Seri Low Yow Chuan assumed leadership of the Group, ushering in a new era of expansion and diversification. Building upon the strong foundation established by the founder, he strengthened the Group’s presence in hospitality, commercial real estate, international investments, and plantation businesses. Under his stewardship, the Group developed and acquired a portfolio of notable assets including Langkawi Country Club, Penang Mount Pleasure Resort, Prince Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Federal Hotel Port Dickson, Federal Hotel Singapore, City Square Centre, Hotel Fairlane, Plaza Low Yat, The Grace Hotel, and The Rushcutters Project in Sydney, Australia. He also spearheaded the Group’s expansion into the plantation sector through investments in Kalimantan, Indonesia.

As we look to the future, we are equally committed to preparing and inspiring the fourth generation to carry this responsibility forward. By fostering a culture of stewardship, adaptability, and excellence, we ensure that the principles which have guided the Group for over seven decades remain relevant for generations to come. While markets, technologies, and communities continue to evolve, our commitment remains unchanged: to build with purpose, grow responsibly, and create enduring value for the future.
